Why do you believe children are overweight today?
I believe that with the battery operated vehicles,video games, and these gas powered or electric scooters parents buy there kids, it's no wonder they are overweight or obese. They aren't putting any physical activity in to their kids lives. If I had these things when I was a kid, I would probably be overweight also.
I think the problem has to do with the parents not forcing the children to go outside and play. Watching television and playing video games is not such a bad thing when done in moderation. It becomes a bad thing when the parent allows the child to sit in front of the television as long as they would like. I feel that a child should be made to go outside and play every day weather permitting.
I am a parent of two boys and it is required that they get a certain amount of outside activity. If the weather is bad, I insist they find other activities outside of television or video games such as coloring, writing, reading, board games, card games, etc.
I also think parents have gotten away from the homecooked meal and indulge in fast foods more often. As a working parent, I can undertand the temptation of always picking up dinner on the way home, but in the long run it is an unhealthy choice for the entire family. We need to get back to our roots where the entire family sits down each night to enjoy a homecooked meal and only occassionally indulge in fast food.
