Electric Wheelchair Clearance
Ford E-150 modification question?
I own a 1996 E-150 Cargo - 216" overall length (standard) , 4.9L/302 c.i. V8, towing package (if it matters) and wonder....
(1) what is the best way to to lower the overall height of this vehicle for stability? Ground clearance from body bottom (not frame) to ground is 14 inches. It has a wheelchair left on the right side and hauls just 1 person in an electric wheelchair (approx. 350 lbs). Clearance into garage is just 3/4 to 1/2 inch
(2) Can the E-150 also be altered suspension-wise for a softer ride without too much effort and how? Mine has the standard suspension.

Not too much you can do, really. Those usually have a 4" body lift, to clear the lift mechanism, and a hightop conversion to clear the wheelchair and lift. You could change to a softer spring rate and softer shocks, but that would intensify the body roll and make the stability even worse. Basically, modify the garage door, and live with the harsh ride. You could try special shocks, that are valved for a softer ride yet firm up sharply after a certain amount of suspension travel, but you will still have that sway problem.
